Bestiary - The Sylvan Guardians
 

Quaris Deeproot & the Sylvan Guardians

The primeval forests of Thranok have given birth to countless creatures both noble and terrible over the centuries and they teem with life in all its myriad of sizes and shapes. This cradle of life is not without its own protectors and for as long as the most ancient trees have sprouted new leaves, the Sylvan Guardians have maintained their vigil over the natural realm. Chief amongst the protectors of the ancient forests is the Master Summoner, Quaris Deeproot. Quaris is an ancient shaman whose communion with the magical forces that give the forest its life have given him a deep understanding and control over the magic flowing from the elements around him. This symbiotic relationship has given Quaris unnaturally long life and it is said that he alone remembers when the forests were new and the world was young, before the coming of Vodash. He carries as his focus a stout yew staff that is carved with many strange markings. He usually dwells in a secluded grove in the largest of the forests of Thranok, a place known only to the most trusted of the Sylvan Guardians. He will venture from it, however, if something threatens the solace of the forest or its inhabitants. Though he is a very gentle soul and values life above all else, he will wield his magical skills with swift vengeance against enemies who would bring death and disease into his lands. Quaris has become aware through his scouts that Vodash and Gorrak know of the island and has decided that the power of the Stones in either of their hands would be a direct threat to the natural world. Rousing the strongest of the Sylvan Guardians to respond to this threat, he has called upon the golden eagles of the southern hills to carry them to the distant location. He only hopes that his own magical abilities will turn the tide in the battle that will surely take place to control the Stones, knowing that the very existence of his homeland is at stake.

An ever-vigilant spirit of the forest who watches over the creatures of the wood and will defend them bravely when called upon with its deadly silver knife.

Silver Python

A shimmering serpent that protects the sacred groves deep in the forest by paralyzing its victims with a poisonous bite and crushing them in its thick coils.

Special Abilities: Venom - When this unit successfully strikes another, the unit suffering the hit has its combat dice changed to the next higher die value (a d6 becomes a d8, a d8 becomes a d10, and a d10 remains the same). This effect lasts until the unit is destroyed and does not cease even when the battle with the inflicting silver python ends.
 
Satyr

A mischievous forest spirit that enjoys playing pranks upon unsuspecting travelers and cutting their purses from their belts with a silver-hilted short sword.

Special Abilities: Bowshot - This unit can use its movement for the turn to make a ranged attack with an Attack Rating of 2d8 against any unit that is up to two squares from the centaur.
 
Unicorn

The embodiment of all goodness and purity, this creature charges into danger with its iridescent spire pointed downward like a deadly lance of golden steel.

Special Abilities: Purity - This unit may elect to re-roll all of its combat dice once for each attack that it is involved in. This re-roll can be used both when the unicorn is the attacker or the defender. All of the unit's combat dice must be re-rolled if this ability is used.
 
The Wendigo

An ancient spirit that traverses the lonely places of the forest, appearing as a large, furry beast with coal-black eyes and long, dagger-like claws that springs upon its victims with terrifying speed and carries them off to places unknown.
